From June 23 to 25, QNU hosted the International Symposium on High-Quality Development of Seafarers (Quanzhou, China). The symposium was co-organized by QNU, the Quanzhou Commerce Bureau, and Quanzhou Zhongquan International Economic & Technical Cooperation (Group) Co., Ltd. It focused on the theme “Focusing on New Quality Productive Forces, Promoting the High-Quality Development of Seafarers.”President Chen Changping, Vice President Huang Jiangkun, and Wang Feng, Deputy Director of the Quanzhou Maritime Safety Administration attended opening ceremony.

The event gathered over 60 participants, including experts and scholars from maritime institutions such as Dalian Maritime University, Shanghai Maritime University, the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) Seafarers’ Training Center, and the Malaysian Maritime Academy. Senior executives from domestic and international shipping firms, including Fujian Boyang Shipbuilding Industry Company, Zhongnuo Nuohang Ship Management Co., Ltd, Hong Kong FLEET Management Limited, The Swire Group, OSM THOME Shanghai Company, and TJENTONG MARITIM INDONESIA, also attended. Representatives from the Fujian Provincial Institute of Navigation, the Quanzhou Shipowners’ Association, and the Quanzhou Port Association participated.

Chen Changping and Deputy Director Wang Feng delivered opening remarks. Discussions centered on the symposium’s theme, featuring insights from shipping company executives and academics from China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. The Quanzhou Maritime Safety Administration offered suggestions and recommendations from the perspective of the maritime regulatory authority.
Several university-enterprise cooperation agreements were signed during the symposium. These were between QNU and Fujian Boyang Shipbuilding Industry Company, between QNU Zhongquan International Seafarer Training Center and Quanzhou Xingji Shipping Co., Ltd., and between Zhongquan Group Shipping Company and the Malaysian Maritime Academy. Delegates also experienced the Full-view Navigation Simulator at QNU, toured UNESCO-listed “Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China” heritage sites, and enjoyed showcases of Intangible Cultural Heritage like Nanyin music and puppetry.
