On the afternoon of September 14, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Special Education Training Program for Malaysian Chinese School Teachers, themed “United in Chinese Education Program in Zayton City” was held in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Attendees included Huang Jiangkun, Vice President of QNU; Lai Youwei, Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Quanzhou Municipal People’s Government;30 participants from 26 Malaysian Chinese schools; heads from relevant departments, faculty and student representatives of the university.

During the ceremony, speeches were delivered by Huang Jiangkun, Lai Youwei, delegation leader Hong Xuanyin, and trainee representative Wang Aiyun. The training program was co-organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Quanzhou Municipal People’s Government, Quanzhou Normal University, and the United Chinese School Teachers’ Association of Malaysia (UCSTAM). Based upon the extensive experience in Chinese language education and the national first-class undergraduate program in special education of our university, the 8-day training was focused on inclusive education concepts and practical skills in special education. The curriculum featured a variety of activities, including lectures, workshops, on-site teaching, observation seminars, cultural tours centered on the Maritime Silk Road, etc.
Since 2019, the university had collaborated with UCSTAM and hosted six sessions of Chinese language teacher training programs. In 2023, The two parties jointly established UCSTAM’s first training base in China. This year the program extended the training in special education for Malaysian Chinese school teachers for the first time to advance their professional development.
